Tighten Your Skin

Your skin is composed of a number of elements that work together. Two of the most important ones are collagen and elastin. Elastin, as its name suggests, gives your skin its elasticity, allowing it to "bounce back" after being stretched. But collagen is the most important protein found in the skin. Its strong fibers offer firm support so that you can maintain more healthy and youthful skin.

Unfortunately, the amount and strength of collagen begins to decline as you grow older and are exposed to things like UV radiation and pollution. This eventually leads to sagging skin and a more weathered appearance. The good news is that your Genesis Lifestyle Medicine provider in Frisco offers fibroblast treatment to help rejuvenate the appearance of your skin.

What is Fibroblast treatment?

First, let's make sure you understand what fibroblasts are. Fibroblasts are types of cells that help your body make collagen. Fibroblasts treatment focuses on these fibroblasts so that your body produces additional collagen to add bulk and structure to your skin, leading to a noticeable anti-aging effect.

Fibroblast treatment relies upon the science of plasma energy. Your provider will use a device similar to a pen to generate an electric current over your skin without directly touching it. This breaks down damaged collagen fibers and encourages your body to replace them with fresher, more youthful skin tissue.

Before & After

What can Fibroblast therapy help me with?

Fibroblast treatment is a non-surgical procedure that can help with:

  • Scarring
  • Blemishes and age spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles and more

Am I a good candidate for Fibroblast treatment?

You may make a good candidate for fibroblast therapy if you have begun noticing that your skin has been affected by wrinkles, age spots, photoaging or scars. A consultation with your Genesis Lifestyle Medicine provider can help determine if this treatment is appropriate for you and your individual needs.

What to expect

Although there may be some minor differences among individual patients, here is what you can generally expect during your fibroblast treatment:

Pre-treatment

Wear a good sunscreen before going out for the two weeks prior to your fibroblast treatment. Avoid the use of retinol and self-tanning products.

On the day of treatment

Do not wear makeup to your fibroblast treatment appointment. It may be helpful to take an anti-histamine about 30 minutes before your treatment to help minimize swelling. You can also take it for two or three days after your treatment.

Your provider will apply a numbing agent to your skin so that you are as comfortable as possible during your fibroblast treatment. You may notice some heat against your skin that may be somewhat uncomfortable and slightly irritating. Depending upon the size of the treatment area, the total treatment time can take anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes.

Fibroblast treatment recovery

It is normal to experience some mild skin redness and swelling immediately after a fibroblast treatment. You may also notice some small crusty spots. Your skin may feel similar to how it does after a sunburn. You will notice an increase in swelling for a few hours after your treatment.

If you had your eyes treated, your swelling may linger for two or three days. The crusty spots should resolve themselves on their own in around one week, depending upon the area that was treated.

Over the next two months, you should notice a gradual improvement in the condition of your skin.

To ensure that you heal completely and properly, limit your consumption of alcohol, and avoid smoking and prolonged sun exposure.
