Minimize the Appearance of Scars

Few things can affect your appearance like scars. There are a number of acne scarring treatments in Dallas available to remove or minimize scars. One increasingly popular method is known as car camouflage in Dallas, or skin re-pigmentation.

What is scar camouflage?

Scar camouflage is a type of medical tattooing that helps to conceal the appearance of scars caused by acne, surgical procedures and stretch marks. This is a highly customizable treatment that recognizes that each scar is as unique as the living canvas in which it is found. The goal is to recreate, as much as possible, the unique and natural features of your skin in the affected area.

Your Genesis Lifestyle Medicine aesthetician is trained to perform stretch mark camouflage in Dallas with a firm grasp of the science behind skin pigments, as well as a solid knowledge of human skin and tissue physiology.

Would I make a good candidate for scar camouflage?

Those with the following conditions are not suitable candidates for scar camouflage:

  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Spider veins
  • Port wine birthmarks
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Unstable vitiligo

If you have any of the above conditions, don't be discouraged. Schedule a consultation to find the most appropriate acne scarring treatment in Dallas for your condition.

Scar camouflage may be right for you if:

  • Your scar has healed and is no longer changing color.
  • Your scar is relatively flat and smooth.
  • Your scar has no dark edges.

How much improvement can I expect after scar camouflage?

The answer depends upon your individual situation; however, there are some general rules of thumb. For one, scar camouflage will not totally make your skin appear as it did before the injury. A scar cannot be completely erased. However, you should notice a significant improvement in your stretch mark camouflage in Dallas treatment, in the color differences between the scarred area and the rest of your skin, making it less noticeable to others.

Scar camouflage will not perfectly match the color of your surrounding skin. This is because of continual skin tone changes from blood circulation, tanning and body temperature. Think of scar camouflage as a process, not an instant "cure." The treatment is to improve damaged or altered skin.

The Nouveau Contour IQ Device

Your scar camouflage will be performed using an advanced technological instrument known as the Nouveau Contour IQ. This is an extremely precise device that creates up to 150 needle insertions per second.

The IQ device will continually measure the resistance level of your skin, automatically adjusting the frequency of needle insertion and pressure to achieve ideal performance and even pigmentation.

Types of chemical peels

At Genesis Lifestyle Medicine in Nashville, Henderson, Las Vegas, Greenville, and Indianapolis, we use three of the very best chemical peels available: the Illuminize Peel™, the Vitalize Peel™, and the Rejuvenize Peel™.

Illuminize Peel

If you’re interested in a chemical peel but you’ve never had one before, the Illuminize Peel is a great place to start due to its gentle effectiveness. As a light peel, Illuminize is also a good choice for those who love low-grade chemical peels that provide a glowing radiance. This peel is popular due to its excellent results, small amount of peeling (if any), and minimal downtime.

The Illuminize Peel is great for:

  • Improving clarity and texture
  • Tightening and refreshing the skin
  • Improving minor skin discoloration
  • Providing a healthy, more youthful glow

Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel is highly effective, yet will not damage the skin. Also a light peel, Vitalize is a popular choice for those interested in improving the signs of aging, such as sun damage and fine lines. It is also very customizable. Patients typically see improvement after just one treatment, and will not require much downtime with this peel.

The Vitalize Peel is great for:

  • Exfoliation
  • Improving the signs of age on the face
  • Clearing up acne
  • Helping with minor skin discolorations
  • Improving sun damage and melasma

Rejuvenize Peel

The Rejuvenize Peel was designed to include both an anti-irritant and a penetration enhancer, making it both effective and keeping discomfort at a minimum. Rejuvenize is a medium-depth chemical peel that removes the outer layer of the skin and the upper layer of the dermis. Most patients see visible improvement after just one treatment.

The Rejuvenize Peel is great for:

  • Improving uneven skin tone and texture
  • Softening fine lines
  • Lessening acne scarring
  • Addressing sun damage, melasma, and pigmentary changes

Downtime and recovery

If your chemical peel involves peeling during recovery, we will tell you this during your consultation. Peeling usually occurs 3 to 5 days post-treatment, and when it begins, you should be sure to keep applying sunscreen every few hours to prevent any hyperpigmentation. During recovery, you should also avoid saunas, baths, hot showers, and hot tubs for about 14 days.

It’s wise to stay out of the sun for one week post-treatment, and when you do go out, wear a strong SPF. The general rule after a chemical peel is to be very mindful and careful in the sun. Your skin will be more vulnerable to the sun’s UV rays after treatment.
